Many have speculated that Apple changed AirDrop at the request of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to aid in reducing the spread of anti-CCP information. The new AirDrop time limit was rolled out to iPhone users in China in iOS 16.1.1. “The idea is to mitigate unwanted file sharing,” Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported in November.
